1. Information We Collect
Account information
When you sign in through a third-party provider (Google, GitHub, X, or LinkedIn), we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from that provider. You also choose a unique nickname displayed on the Platform.
Profile information
You may optionally upload a custom avatar image. This image is stored securely and associated with your account.
Game activity
We record your gameplay data including tokens earned, wins, losses, streaks, and challenge history. This data is used to calculate your tier ranking and leaderboard position.
Prompts and interactions
The prompts you submit during challenges may be logged for the purpose of scoring, moderation, and improving the Platform.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Authenticate your identity and manage your account
- Display your profile, nickname, and tier on the leaderboard
- Track and display your game statistics
- Prevent abuse and enforce our Terms of Use
- Improve the Platform and develop new features
- Communicate with you about your account or changes to our policies
3. Third-Party Authentication
We use third-party OAuth providers for sign-in. When you authenticate, we receive limited profile information from those providers. We do not receive or store your passwords. Each provider's use of your data is governed by their own privacy policy:

Your data is stored in secure databases with encryption at rest and in transit. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only in the following circumstances:
- Public profile data: Your nickname, avatar, tier, and game statistics are visible to other users on the leaderboard and profile pages
- Service providers: We use third-party services to operate the Platform (hosting, authentication, storage). These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy commitments
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of WordSwords or its users
6. Cookies and Sessions
We use essential cookies to maintain your authentication session. These are strictly necessary for the Platform to function and cannot be disabled. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics cookies.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Update or correct your profile information through your account settings
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Portability: Request your data in a portable format

8. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Anonymized gameplay data may be retained for analytics purposes.
9. Children's Privacy
WordSwords is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting a notice on the Platform. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
